Coming to DVD from director Ann Hui and Well Go USA Entertainment comes a touching look at dedication and love with A SIMPLE LIFE.

This film tells the story of Ah Tao (Deanie Ip), a woman who has been the maid for the same family for four generations. Roger (Andy Lau), now a man, is someone Ah Tao has taken care of since he was born. Now a movie producer, Roger is always busy as Ah Tao still cooks, cleans and takes care of Roger.

That is until one evening Roger returns to discover Ah Tao has suffered a stroke. Not wanting to be a burden, Ah Tao requests that she retire and be placed in a senior facility. Checking out the facility, Roger makes sure that Ah Tao is comfortable and wants for nothing.

Roger and Ah Tao take a journey together that is rare and beautiful.

FINAL WORD: Ip as Ah Tao is lovely, beautiful, touching, heart breaking and endearing. Her belief in not being a burden is not over stated or over played. Ip plays this character with such depth that I was truly moved by her. The interactions between Ip and Lau seem so natural it was easy to forget this was a film.

Lau as Roger is a quiet man but when he is with Ah Tao there is this amazing chemistry that happens. His face lights up, he smiles, jokes and shows such love and care for this woman he introduces as his ‘aunt’. The impact she had on his life is clear in the way he holds her to his heart. These two actors working together made this film as lovely as it is.

Other cast include: Lawrence Ah Mon as Ah Chun, Chi-san Chan as Jason, Dennis Chan as Vincent, Paul Chun as Uncle Kin, Pik Kee Hui as Aunt Kam, So-ying Hui as Mui, Sammon Hung Kam-Bo as Director Hung, Lan Law as Madame Lo, Yun-sau Mak as Hengzi, Hailu Qin as Ms. Choi.

A SIMPLE LIFE is made available by Well Go USA Entertainment that specializes in bringing the best in Asian Cinema to North America. With over 2,000 releases since 1994 go to to discover other fantastic releases!

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give A SIMPLE LIFE three and a half tubs of popcorn out of five. This is such a beautiful film not filled with flash or musical sentiment that often tries to force the audience into emotion, but instead lets the relationship tell the story. These two actors, Ip and Lau, are the reason this film has been recognized with awards and deserves to be.

This film is based on a true story of film producer Roger Lee’s relationship with a family servant. The film brought awards from the 2011 Golden Horse Film Festival and the 2012 Hong Kong Film Awards. A SIMPLE LIFE was also a submission in the 2012 Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

There are moments of endearing humor, a few tears, and the thought that Ah Tao could be someone we all know in our own lives. From the beginning of the film until its very end it is a true joy to watch.

In the end – the story is true and the relationship beloved.
