Coming to DVD from Nickelodeon and SHOUT! Factory comes the DVD release of AAAHH!! REAL MONSTERS.

In this third season, the monsters practice their skills in trying to avoid capture by the monster hunter Simon (Jim Belushi). Their headmaster, The Gromble (Gregg Burger) watches these monsters in training by the names of Ickis (Charlie Adler), Oblina (Christine Cavanaugh), and Krumm (David Eccles) as the go through their trials and tribulations.

Living below a city dump in New York City, they are sent up to practice their scaring on the humans as classroom assignments. Gromble can hear from the Pool of Elders and along with his assistant Zimbo (Tim Curry), that is the source of human fears.

Learning lessons, growing up together, and having fun are all part of being a real monster.

FINAL WORD: The stories are pretty interesting and the creation of these monsters clearly took someone with a sense of humor. That would be Gabor Csupo and Peter Gaffney with the company Klasky Csupo who created the show for Nickelodeon. Interestingly enough they are also responsible for RUGRATS and DUCKMAN.

While sketching the monsters Csupo said, “ I want them to be silly, but not too silly” and I couldn’t agree more. The characters are exactly that! Of course my favorite is Oblina who always seems to have the right answers – but no one listens! Typical.

Disc 1 includes: Festival of the Festering Moon, Krumm Gets Ahead, Monster Blues, Amulet of Enfarg, Who’ll Stop Brian, Ickis and the Red Zimbo and Baby, It’s you! Disc 2 contains You Only Scare Twice, Out of the Past, Eye Full of Wander, Fistfull of Toenails, Wake Me When It’s Over and The Master Monster.

AAAHH! REAL MONSTERS was part of Nickelodeon’s programming for 1994-2000 returning to television in 2002 with Nicktoons! The show was actually nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Animation, which is very impressive for an animated show.

Nickelodeon in its 33rd year has built a diverse and global entertainment industry by putting kids first. Their network can be viewed by over 100 million households and has been number one for seventeen years!

SHOUT! Factory, itself a diversified entertainment company proudly brings feature films, classic and contemporary television series, animation, live music and comedy specials to DVD and Bluray in packages owners can be proud to have as part of their home viewing collection.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give AAAHH!! REAL MONSTERS three and a half tubs of popcorn out of five. This really is fun, funny with creative monsters that are just enough monster for kids and their parents. I openly admit it had me laughing and I say there is nothing wrong with an enjoyable animated series doing just that.

In the end – cute doesn’t scare them!
