San Diego – The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center is chock-full of specials this month. Each Friday night is the IMAX Film Festival; visitors can see up to three movies at discounted prices. Also showing is the holiday G-rated film Santa vs. the Snowman. Other unique offerings include:

Santa Ynez – The first Santa Ynez Art Week, November 12 – 20, features western landscapes, modern painting, sculpture and crafts. The festival also includes the Historical Museum’s 27th Annual Vaquero Show & Sale. There, artisans and collectors from around the United States display and sell Vaquero (California cowboy) inspired gear, artwork, apparel, memorabilia and collectibles. During the celebration, there will be mini-events at the Elverhoj Museum of History & Art in Solvang, the Wildling Art Museum’s 7th Annual Artists’ Studio Tour and the Sanford Winery’s Art & Wine Workshops. Sonora – For the fourth time in history, California will supply “The People’s Christmas Tree,” which is placed in front of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. It’s a 65-foot white fir from the Stanislaus National Forest in the Central Sierra. The tree will be loaded onto a truck November 5th. and taken on a seven-day tour throughout the state, including stops in 12 cities from Sacramento to Los Angeles. Then it heads east on a 13-day cross-country tour. California school children have created over 1,000 handmade ornaments for the tree. Los Angeles – Throughout the month and into the spring, more than 60 museums present Pacific Standard Time Celebrates Art. It’s a joint celebration of the birth of postwar art in LA and its worldwide influence. There are special packages that include hotel stays and VIP museum passes.
