After much anticipation the roaring can begin! On Bluray, DVD and 3D disc is director Colin Trevorrow, Amblin Entertainment and Universal Home Entertainments roaring “Jurassic World.”
In 1993, director Steven Spielberg brought a film based on the novel by Michael Crichton to the big screen. There was no way the world was ready for what they were about to see as we all got a dose of dinosaurs the likes of which we’d never seen. Computer generated and life-size animatronics delighted everyone. “Jurassic Park” would gross over $900 million and leave fans still hungry for more.
“The Lost World: Jurassic Park” brought fans back into the theatre in 1997. Also based on the next dinosaur novel by Crichton, Spielberg took the reigns directing. Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm and Richard Attenborough as John Hammond, InGen’s head trouble maker would reprise their roles. Giving us all the royal dinosaur treatment, the film grossed almost $700 million dollars and brought pride to fans of San Diego as we recognized places and streets in the film.
“Jurassic Park III” tramped into theatres in 2001 again with writer Crichton but this time Joe Johnston sitting in the director’s chair. This time it would be Sam Neill returning to reprise his role as Dr. Alan Grant. Coming in at over $350 million it seemed the dinosaur craze had finally leveled off.
Or so one would think…
In 2015 fans were lining up to see the highly anticipated “Jurassic World”. Perhaps it is nostalgia for a film that is filled with action, twists, great characters and even some awesome CGI and with a fourteen year span; the film had a lot to live up to.
It has been twenty two years since Jurassic Park failed miserably but now its large doors are open to the public. The genetics have changed in the dinosaurs but they seem to have forgotten one simple rule nature will find a way and when it does a familiar running and screaming begins!
Chris Pratt as Owen is kind of sexy in the movie to be perfectly honest. There is that dangerously sexy aspect to his character that women are going to love. In all the “Jurassic Park” films, there hasn’t been such a hunk for ladies to look at – well we got one AND he rides a bike around the raptors. Yea Anna Faris, we’re a little jealous but we love you too so we have no problem letting it slide if you don’t mind us oogling your hubby.
Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire character has a little bit of OCD and narcissism to her. There isn’t really a back story here but is the ginger love interest. I guess she should have kept a better eye on her nephews. The storyline does play a little bit like the original “Jurassic Park” in the sense there are kids in danger.
D’Onofrio character is the bad guy, which he does exceedingly well, wanting to use the raptors as a weapon! Omar Sy as Barry is a very cool character supporting Pratt’s character. The two young actors, Ty Simpkins as Gray is such a little cutie and Robinson as Zach is the handsome teenager that will get attention from this film for sure.
Then there is the return of Dr. Wu played by BD Wong, who is the only one who knows what the dino-DNA is spliced with. He seems to be a bigger deal and you’d have thought he would have learned the first time. Seems he didn’t learn his lesson the first time out.
Other cast include: Irrfan Khan as Simon Masrani, Jake Johnson as Lowery, Judy Greer as Karen, Lauren Lapkus as Vivian, Brian Tee as Hamada, Katie McGrath as Zara, Andy Buckley as Scott and Eric Edelstein as Paddock Supervisor.
TUBS OF POPCORN: We give “Jurassic World” three-disc set four and a half tubs of popcorn out of five. Being true “Jurassic Park” fans we are probably a little biased and we are proud to say so! It is definitely a great revival bringing back the love of dinosaurs. If there was one thing we kind of frowned a little is trying to train raptors and being smarter than we are why would they listen to little ole us?
But who cares because seeing it once again on our own television screen is beyond excellent! CGI is jaw dropping and the humongous whale-fish-whatever is awesome. The Raptors, T-Rex and water-dino team up and that is a pretty interesting partnership to watch.
The actors are amazing with the CGI and Pratt is proof of that with his scenes working with the dinos. Everything about the film kept us watching from start to finish in the theatre and now we get to watch it again and again. The 3-D disc is awesome but seriously we think “Jurassic World” on Bluray has no problem standing on its own.
Like exited little kids it was a thrill to be back in the park and thrilled with everything about it. We have no doubt in roaring out loud that this is a must have for the home media library because “Jurassic World” sets imaginations going about the world we came to love and continue to be fascinated with thanks to the writings of Crichton and the vision of Spielberg.
Honestly folks, if you don’t pick this up we can’t be friends anymore! Just kidding! The pack includes Bluray 3D, Bluray, DVD and Digital HD along with being available on iTunes. The Bluray exclusives are Welcome to Jurassic World, Jurassic World: All-Access Pass, Innovation Center Tour with Chris Pratt and more! Additional features include Deleted Scenes, Chris & Colin Take on the World and Dinosaurs Roam Once Again. The Digital HD with Ultraviolet can be watched anywhere and my guess is it will be.
In the end — get ready because the park is open again!
