Out on DVD blu-ray from director William Friedkin and Lionsgate Home Entertainment comes a unique and insane story of what happens when you hire KILLER JOE.

This film tells the story of Chris (Emile Hirsch) a young man who is in major debt for gambling. Not making enough from his drug dealing, Chris decides that the best thing to do is hire a man named Killer Joe (Matthew McConaughey) to kill his mother for the insurance.

Enlisting the help of his father Ansel (Thomas Hayden Church) and his stepmother Sharla (Gina Gershon). He doesn’t want to involve his simple but lovely sister Dottie (Juno Temple) but she finds out and agrees anyway.

In the first meeting with Joe, they learn there is a large retainer needed for the job to be done. When Ansel and Chris inform him they don’t have that kind of cash, Joe wants to end their business dealings. That is until he sees Dottie! His heart skips a beat and agree to do the job if Dottie can be the retainer.

Dottie herself seems captivated by Joe but her simple mind is working on its own discovering where she fits in all of what is happening around her.

As their plans twist, turn and get out of control one thing is clear – Joe knows exactly what needs to be done and how. What Chris didn’t count on was Joe’s control over the whole family.

FINAL WORD: Hirsch is so scattered as Chris that something he thought would be simple, simply gets out of control. Between Joe and owing some tough guys allot of money, there doesn’t seem to be enough time to think things through. Hirsch does an outstanding job.

Church as Ansel just goes along for the ride thinking that money would solve allot of his problems. When its time to step up to the plate, the truth finally comes to the surface and he lets the chips fall where they may. Gershon as Sharla dives in deep to the stereotypical trailer park hijinks that will crash down around her.

Temple as Dottie is sweet but in a way that absolutely seduces Joe. It isn’t that she does any one thing, it is just her essence of innocence and Temple portrays this extremely well.

The winner here is obviously McConaughey period! He is charming, polite, very smart, cold, sexually twisted, love struck and out of control. There are some jaw dropping (no pun intended) scenes that are just one of those see-to-believe kind of things.

Other cast include: Julie Adams as Adele, Charley Vance as Preacher, Marc MacCauley as Digger Soames, Danny Epper as G-Man, and Gregory C. Bachaud as Filpatrick.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give KILLER JOE three and a half tubs of popcorn out of five. Wow, be warned this is not for kids or the faint of heart! This is some pretty serious stuff mixed in with comedy and drama. Tracy Letts wrote the play KILLER JOE in 1998 and starred Glenn Scott, Amanda Plummer and Michael Shannon.

The DVD blu ray includes “Southern Fried Hospitality: From Stage to Screen” featurette, SXSW Q/A with the cast, SXSW introduction by William Friedkin, the Red Band Theatrical Trailer and audio commentary with director William Friedkin (unrated version).

Lionsgate is a leading global entertainment company with a strong and diversified presence in motion picture production and distribution, television programming and syndication with home and family entertainment. This includes such productions as ‘Mad Men,’ ‘Weeds,’ ‘Nurse Jackie’ and ‘Nashville.’

In the end – a totally twisted deep-fried Texas redneck trailer park murder story!
