Once again Camp Pendleton has a unique and hidden gem within the midst of gritty hardened Marines, helicopter trainings and mortar bombings; however this isn’t necessarily about the service members. Marine Corps spouses never cease to amaze me and this is one of those organizations that do just that. Are you looking to get involved, been involved but want to enhance your skills or network amongst other area Marine Corps spouses?

At Blinder Memorial Chapel on the base, twice a year, you’ll find a team of all-volunteer military spouses who organize the Leadership Education Seminar (LES). This seminar invites commands to nominate exceptional military spouses from within the Marine Corps Installations – West area of operations for an opportunity to enhance their small unit leaders’ personal and professional skills to better support the unit and the military community. If you are a spouse that is active in unit events, base activities or other community organizations, this seminar is for you!

On the first morning of this one-of-a-kind seminar, participants anxiously arrive and are greeted by a sea of painted gardening aprons. Over time, the “Growing Great Leaders” theme ‘grows’ within each participant. Within those three days, the LES objective is to arm participants with relevant information and leadership techniques, which are tailored to the uniqueness of the military lifestyle and constant change.

Throughout the three-day seminar, participants see interactive presentations and split up into small group sessions to utilize the skills learned in the presentations. Each participant will be given a plethora of information on topics like: insight into varying leadership styles, how to foster positive growth within individual units, how to recruit and maintain volunteers, and how to lead during a crisis; just to name a few.
