Are you ready to start summer with some laughs? EPIX is bringing a Free Preview Weekend coming May 12-15 and to get the laughs rolling is “Michael Ian Black: Noted Expert.”
Black started his comedy with a group called The State and was part of the Viva Varity show along with the film Wet Hot American Summer. Becoming a popular face on the VH1 series I Love the 70s-80s-90s and New Millennium brought his comedy to a larger audience.
Hollywood called when Black provided the scripts for the 2006 film WEDDING DAZE and one of my favorites with Simon Pegg in 2007 with RUN, FAT BOY, RUN. Even with that, Black returns to television and Comedy Central on a regular basis and works with some of the funniest people around.
Most people might not know that Black also wrong a children’s book called Chicken Cheeks, Cock-a-Doodle-Doo-Boop!, Naked, The Purple Kangaroo, A Pig Parade is a Terrible Idea and I’m Bored which all received high praise. In 2012 he co-wrote American, You Sexy Bitch: A Love Letter to Freedom with Meghan McCain.
Also, You’re Not Doing It Right: Tales of Marriage, Sex, Death and Other Humiliations, and My Custom Van (and 50 Other Mind-Blowing Essays That Will Blow Your Mind All Over Your Face). Black has also written book reviews for The New York Times.
Now, with Noted Expert taped at John Jay College in New York, Black brings his views on pro-choice, the Tilt-A-Whirl, parenting, gender roles, guilty pleasures and the entire human experience.
Making us all feel like we aren’t in the mix alone is Michael Ian Black!
“Michael Ian Black: Noted Expert” is an EPIX Original Comedy Event produced by Comedy Dynamics, directed by Ryan Polito, and written and performed by Michael Ian Black. The executive producers are Brian Volk-Weiss, Cisco Henson, Ted Schachter, and Mike Berokowitz. Ross Bernard is the executive producer for EPIX and Valerie Bishop is the producer for EPIX.
EPIX has brought the best comedy with their stand-up specials. Headliners include Russell Brand, Craig Ferguson, Lewis Black, Louis C.K., Dennis Miller, Eddie Izzard and my family’s favorite Jim Jefferies. EPIX also brings the Original Documentary The Improv: 50 Years Behind the Brick Wall, a special that tells the story of America’s first comedy club.
TUBS OF POPCORN: I give “Michael Ian Black: Noted Expert” five tubs of popcorn out of five. I swear I wasn’t prepared to laugh from the get go but that’s exactly what happened. Black didn’t warm me up; he went right in for the comedy kill!
There isn’t one moment of this special where I wasn’t either jaw dropped, shooting an asner or laughing till I hurt — not to mention the one time I leaned over and almost fell out of my chair. Who says comedy doesn’t hurt?
Black says, “I’m thrilled to present my special the way God intended — free of charge during the EPIX Free Preview, and with all the curse words”. That, my friends, is how I want all my comedy invitations!
So spend the evening with Michael Ian Black on May 13th at 10 p.m. ET/ PT, 9 Central and don’t worry, I’m sure he’ll love every minute of it.
In the end — he takes the sting out of life and instead guides us into laughing at ourselves and I can live with that!
