Ray Street Artists shine in Museum of the Living Artist exhibit curated by San Diego Art Department

RAY STREET ARTISTS are celebrating the release of their book showcasing the diverse artwork of artists currently working in North Park with a special exhibit at San Diego Art Institute’s Museum of the Living Artist in Balboa Park from August 2 to September 8 with a reception on August 9th at 6 PM.

Artist Ari Kate Ashton has been a teacher and mentor to the group of 19 artists, most of whom have been working in part at San Diego Art Department, a program of the San Diego Art Institute. “I’ve been working with this loose network of artists over the past few years,” Ari Kate Ashton said, “and it seemed like the perfect time to place a spotlight on the wonderful work they are creating and selling.”

The group does not represent an art movement. Instead, each artist has built a body of work that reflects their personal creative style that gives expression to their unique voices. Some of the artists will be known to San Diegans as they have exhibited in solo shows, at Art Walk and in well established art galleries.

“I feel fortunate to have come across this talented group of artists,” said artist Lorraine ‘Rain’ Iverson, “I’ve become a better artist working among this highly supportive group who constantly challenge me. They have provided a safe place for me to work at my best and springboard my own creative efforts.”

Artist Jan Lord echoed Lorraine’s sentiments, ”My association with Ray Street Artists has bettered my life, art and confidence in myself. Kate Ashton my teacher and friend is the most giving, creative and kind person, I am blessed to have Kate’s input and guidance. My fellow artists who I meet with every Thursday have also given me strength as a budding artist and I cherish their friendship.”

Ray Street Artists will be on hand for the August 9th reception. Ray Street Artists include Lesley Anderson, Ari Kate Ashton, Bronlie Crosby, Sheila Daube, Ann Golumbuk, Patricia Harris, Vanessa V Hofmann, Lisa Kohl, Rain Iverson, Dawn Kureshy, Sharon Lacy-Huff, Jan Lord, Shirin Nikoukari, Nancy Plank, Tricia Skogland, Tammi Smith, Lynn Stefner, Patric Stillman and Lisa Tear.
