Well, the masses have spoken at this years 2013 Academy Awards show with host Seth McFarlane. From the beginning having McFarlane host the show was a gamble by most accounts but he didn’t do any worse than expected.

That being said, some of the awards this year were a little surprising. So if you are one of the many fans who write down your choices, check them against the list.

My happy surprise was LIFE OF PI taking Best Achievement, Visual Effects, Best Screenplay, and Best Director. Personally I was thrilled about each and every award it won. If you haven’t had a chance to see this visually stunning story put it on your list of must-sees!

Some are not surprises such as Christoph Waltz for DJANGO UNCHAINED and Daniel Day-Lewis for LINCOLN. There was also redemption for Ben Affleck winning Best Picture with ARGO.

Best Achievement in Costume Design – Anna Karenina

Best Live Action Short Film – Curfew

Best Documentary Short Subject – Inocente

Best Documentary Feature – Searching for Sugarman

Best Foreign Language Film – Amour

Best Sound Mixing – Les Miserables

Best Sound Editing – Zero Dark Thirty AND Skyfall

Best Supporting Actress – Anne Hathaway

Best Achievement in Film Editing – ARGO

Best Production Design – Lincoln

Best Screenplay – Life of Pi

Best Original Song – Skyfall

Best Adapted Screenplay – Argo

Best Original Screenplay – Django Unchained

Best Director – Ang Lee

Best Actress – Jennifer Lawrence

Best Actor – Daniel Day-Lewis

Best Film of the Year – Argo

Let’s hope the 2014 Academy Awards brings us more of the best and brightest in motion pictures!
