Out on DVD today from the Disney vaults comes one of the most beloved animated films adapted from the story by J.M. Barrie is PETER PAN.

It feels strange to be describing what the story is about as Pan is a universal character but just in case. This film tells the story of the Darling children – Wendy (Kathryn Beaumont), John (Paul Collins) and Michael (Tommy Luske). Wendy loves telling stories about the elusive Peter Pan (Bobby Driscoll) and doesn’t know the boy himself sneaks in on occasion to listen.

That is until the family dog captures Pan’s shadow and he comes back to retrieve it. When Wendy explains that the stories are about to come to an end Pan decides to take them to Neverland where they won’t have to grow up and Wendy can be a Mother to Pan and the Lost Boys.

All to quickly Pan’s nemesis Captain Hook (Hans Conreid) has the idea to finally put an end their feud but it involves putting all the children in danger. That doesn’t stop Peter as a plan is put together to make Neverland all it should be.

FINAL WORD: PETER PAN is such an iconic character that it truly is impossible to find anyone who doesn’t know the character. The story offers such a learning experience of friendships and family with the final belief that being young at heart is something we should all embrace.

Disney has successfully continued to re-release such beloved classics like PETER PAN and bringing them back to theatres for special engagements. What a thrill it is to take children and grandchildren to see the story on a big screen and have the kids anticipate the DVD release so they can watch these stories over and over.

The colors here in blu-ray truly add to the story and give it a life I don’t think Disney could have seen coming. With its release in 1953 who could have known then that the story could once again come to life on our modern large flat screen televisions and do it justice!

Other cast include: Bill Thompson as Mr. Smee, Heather Angel as Mrs. Darling, Candy Candido as the Indian Chief and Tom Conway narrates the film.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give PETER PAN four tubs of popcorn out of five. Are you kidding me? In blu-ray this film is absolutely radiant and alive. PETER PAN is Disney’s 14th animated film and has also brought another life for Tinker Bell having her own series of films.

This is a definite must-have for those who have a dvd library filled with films that are watchable and enjoyed by the entire family. The emphasis of the stories are lessons we all can learn from no matter what our age.

The pack includes blu-ray, DVD and digital copy that have Disney features like the never-before-seen alternate ending, deleted songs and an introduction by Daisy Disney Miller. The DVD includes “Tinker Bell: A Fairy’s Tale”. There are story board apps with coloring pages, puzzles and music and the press and pause to see what happens next. All of this is topped with the digitally restored picture and sound.

In the end – it will live in your heart forever!
