Coming to theatres this Friday from director Sam Mendes is Ian Flemings spy come to screen with the help of MGM and the story of SKYFALL.

This film tells the story of James Bond (Daniel Craig), also known as 007. He is a spy for MI6 in London and reports to M (Dame Judi Dench). As MI6 comes under attack, a fatal shot sends Bond into seclusion.

That is until M becomes the target of a madman known as Silva (Javier Bardem), a man with not only a past linked to M, but to Bond as well. As the agency comes under scrutiny, activities are followed by Gareth Mallory (Ralph Fiennes) who wants answers as to who is responsible.

With the help of Eve (Naomi Harris) and Q (Ben Whishaw), Bond begins to put the pieces together of a plot that only Silva could pull off.

Now Bond must do what ever it takes to stop the threat before everything is destroyed.

FINAL WORD: Craig has gotten his wear out of playing a different kind of James Bond. Previously a dark haired, deep-eyed Bond was the face people recognized. In this new incarnate audiences are treated to a blond hair blue eyed more emotional Bond and in SKYFALL that is the case. Craig seems more of a Batman with his SkyFall “Wayne Manor” even with the flag waving at the end. I suppose Bond is the closest thing to a British unmasked superhero.

Dench as M obviously has issues that need resolving regarding her working relationship with Bond. Seems there is a history there that audiences will get to see unfold, hey, don’t ask me to spoil it for you! Fiennes as Mallory has his moments but it soon becomes clear what his motives are.

Harris as Eve is the new Bond girl I suppose but usually any girl that hooks up with Bond ends up dead. Just something I’ve noticed over the years. Whishaw as Q is funny with quick one-liners, just wish there were more gadgets to amuse me.

The clear winner and the best part of the film is Javier Bardem as Silva. He is quick, harsh, funny, and has more than a few tricks up his sleeve. He has a story to tell and is going to make sure everyone knows every detail. I absolutely loved his performance!

Other cast include: Berenice Marlohe as Severine, Albert Finney as Kincade, Rory Kinnear as Tanner, Ola Rapace as Patrice, Helen McCrory as Clair Dowar, Bill Buckhurt as Ronson and Elize du Toit as Vanessa.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give SKYFALL three tubs of popcorn out of five. First of all there isn’t anything I could tell a Bond fan to keep them away. There might be some disappointment in the lack of gadgets and the predictability of the storyline but hey, once a 007 fan always a 007 fan!

This is a franchise that goes back to 1953 when Ian Fleming first created the character James Bond. The big draw for fans has always been the guns (the Walther PPK being the most recognized Bond gun), action, beautiful women (Jane Seymor, Teri Hatcher and Halle Berry to name a few) and the famous Aston Martin car.

Daniel Craig is the sixth actor to portray 007 and probably the most controversial. Other Bonds’ include Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan. Personally I vote for Jason Statham to be the next Bond!

In the end – Bond’s loyalty is tested!
