Steven L. Herrick Named Managing Partner for Tully Rinckey PLLC’s San Diego, CA Office

Three years of explosive growth spur firm to elevate experienced attorney to oversee operations

Steven L. Herrick has served clients at Tully Rinckey PLLC from its early beginnings when he worked from the firm’s Albany, N.Y. office. He spearheaded the firm’s opening and expansion into Washington, D.C., helping to grow the operation from an office of just two attorneys to what it is today, one of the nation’s largest firms focused on federal employment law, military justice and security clearance.

Mr. Herrick recently relocated to San Diego, Calif. to establish Tully Rinckey PLLC’s first office on the West Coast. From this location, he is expanding the capability of the firm’s federal sector practice groups to include some of the finest federal employment law and military law attorneys in the nation. They continue to fight and win on behalf of federal employees in California and throughout the nation, and for service members worldwide. In his new role, Mr. Herrick will oversee the daily operations of the firm’s San Diego legal team while ensuring successful legal results and unparalleled service for clients.

“I am honored by this opportunity to take a leadership role in one of the nation’s most innovative law firms,” Mr. Herrick said. “I look forward to working with Tully Rinckey PLLC’s quality team in San Diego to significantly increase efficiency through the provision of high quality legal services to our clients.”

Tully Rinckey PLLC’s exponential growth necessitated the elevation of key attorneys to newly-created managing partner positions at each office. This reorganization of Tully Rinckey PLLC’s management structure is part of a plan developed at the beginning of the firm’s latest growth phase to decentralize key management functions and reach new levels of client service and enhanced efficiency firm-wide.

The firm’s latest growth phase involved an April 2014 expansion of its Washington, D.C. office to a Class A, trophy building at 815 Connecticut Ave., NW, just one block from the White House. Just five months later, the firm opened its first West Coast office in San Diego, Calif., allowing Mr. Herrick and the firm’s growing federal employment and military law team to better serve West Coast clients and access new pools of legal talent. The firm fully expects to continue growing its San Diego federal sector team in a way that best serves client needs and ensures Tully Rinckey PLLC’s dominance in the areas of federal employment law, military law and security clearance representation. The firm has four office locations in upstate New York.

Mr. Herrick has almost 35 years of experience in all facets of litigation, practicing before federal and state courts, the Merit System Protection Board and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission as well as representing clients in arbitration, mediation and agency proceedings. His commitment to representing service members, veterans and the federal workforce was reinforced by his son’s deployment to Iraq.

Mr. Herrick earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts University, where he graduated with honors, and received his juris doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley (Boalt Hall) School of Law. Following law school, he served as confidential secretary to the justices of the Supreme Court of New York State Appellate Division, Second Department.

Mr. Herrick has repeatedly been selected by Thomson Reuters for inclusion in its annual list of Super Lawyers and is routinely called upon by national media for his experience in federal employment law and military law.
