Coming to DVD from director Tung-Shing Yee and Well Go USA Entertainment comes a tale with a slight of hand and THE GREAT MAGICIAN.

This film tells the story of Chang Hsien (Tony Leung Chiu-wai), a magician that amazes everyone who watches him. Being away for years during the Revolution of the Qing Dynasty in China, Chang has returned but with a mission of his own.

A warlord Bully Lei (Ching Wan Lau), with seven wives, has taken over a small town. Much to the dismay of the people, they secretly band together to plot ways to rid themselves of him. When Chang arrives he buys a small theatre in order to keep up appearances.

What Chang does discover is wife number seven is Yin (Xun Zhou), a woman from his past whose father is being held prisoner. His crime? Keeping the Seven Wonders scroll from Lei!

But, as with all great magic, nothing is ever as it seems.

FINAL WORD: Leung as Chang Hsien is controlled, funny, and just lovely as the very personable magician. He not only has slight of hand but you could say slight of mind the way he plays off of his adversary Lei. If you have seen HERO and RED CLIFF then Leung is no stranger to viewers as he plays the role beautifully.

Lau as Bully Lei is such an enigma to the film. There are so many layers as to who he is, what he’s up to and where he ends up that really had my head spinning, but all in a good way.

Zhou is stunning as Yin and if this actress seems familiar it is because she recently starred in the amazing film CLOUD ATLAS. In this role there is such an empowerment issue here as she decides who she will love and who she will forgive. Her calm temperament is more than I could do!

Well Go USA Entertainment continues to bring Asian Cinema to North American with over 2,000 titles worldwide. There is such amazing content to be had so check it out at for more!

Other cast include: Paul Chun, Vincent Kok, To-hoi Kong, Ho Leung Lau, Kenya Sawada, Hark Tsui, Zhiyi Wang, Daniel Wu, Gang Wu, Dejun Xia and Ni Yan.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give THE GREAT MAGICIAN three tubs of popcorn out of five. Once again Well Go USA Entertainment has brought a film that is vibrant, beautiful and a joy to watch in blu-ray. The story unfolds, dare I say magically and it is worth every moment of fun to watch.

The story has plenty of action, adventure and magic to keep audiences entertained! Watching the actors play off of one another in a battle of magical wits was a surprise addition to bringing the story to life.

In the end – it is a legion of pure magic!
