Coming to DVD this week from director Wai-keung Lau and WePictures and WELL GO USA Entertainment comes the epic story of THE GUILLOTINES.

This film tells the story of an elite group of fighters called The Guillotines crated by Emperor Yong Zheng. They were put into place to take care of anyone who might want to oppose the Manchurian rules Qing Dynasty.

It is a position of honor with a group that doesn’t question any order given. This is about to change as a new Emperor Qiang Long takes the throne. His ideas are more western and he becomes fascinated with the new technology of the times. With this he no longer needs The Guillotines – but how does one dismantle a legacy?

For an Emperor it’s easy. He puts the group into a situation that goes horribly wrong so that The Guillotines are now considered outlaws. Hunted one by one they must work together to survive long enough to confront the one man who wants their downfall.

FINAL WORD: Completely a sucker for period pieces, no matter what country or genre, there is something amazing about the new films coming out of Asia. They are so filled with intense feeling in their characters are so beautifully written that this film is a joy to watch.

They also don’t shy away from stretching the media without making it look ridiculous. This film is exactly what I’m talking about with keeping it beautiful, thoughtful yet creative and imaginative!

Cast include: Xiaoming Huang as Wolf, Ethan Juan as Leng, Purba Rgyal as Chentai, Tian Gao as Hutu, Yi Wei Zhou as Buka, Boran Jing as Shisan, Peng Guo as Su, Yuchun Li as Musen, Yu Wang as Gong-E and Vivien Li as Bai Lan.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give THE GUILLOTINES three tubs of popcorn out of five. This is quite a story to bring to the screen. There isn’t a lot of talk but when there is please pay attention! There is an immense amount of action and the weaponry is completely brilliant.

The special effects are an added character to the film absolutely. Yes, this is a film of bad asses and talent mixed into a story of loyalty and a dash of righteous indignation that would bring anyone to revenge. Instead this band of men just want to understand why someone they trust would be to eager to see their demise.

In the end – they are a brotherhood!
