From the renowned Mariinsky Ballet Company, EuroArts, More2Screen and Fathom Events for one night only is a holiday classic come to screen with THE NUTCRACKER.

The story beings at a Christmas Eve party as Clara (Alina Somova) received a nutcracker doll from her uncle. Later that night Clara falls asleep, she is quickly awaken by a battle between the Mouse King, his army and the Nutcracker (Vladimir Shklyarov).

Quickly Clara watches the nutcracker transform into a Prince who comes to her aid. After the battle she and the Prince are celebrated! But Clara wakes up wondering if everything she had experienced was a dream. Falling back asleep she searches for the answer.

FINAL WORD: This is an amazing chance for families to experience a story that came to the world in 1892 choreographed originally by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov performed for the first time at the The Imperial Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia.

There was a resurgence in the 1960’s and has been performed mainly during the Christmas season. Now the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Mouse King, the Flowers, the Angels and the Gingerbread soldiers along with Clara and the Prince are iconic with music that most people now easily recognize.

Now, 120 years later the historic Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg is hearing the music and seeing the movements of THE NUTCRACKER once again! Valery Gergiev is the Artistic Director for the Mariinsky Theatre and is the first ballet company to produce a theatrical release in 3-D with the 2011 release of GISELLE. “The Mariinsky Theatre is one of the world’s leading opera and ballet companies with a far-reaching global profile,” says Gergiev.

Having the opportunity for those who are unable to attend a theatre performance, having THE NUTCRACKER in theatres reaches so many who truly want to see for themselves the story. “Through ground-breaking projects like THE NUTCRACKER, producing the same exacting standards for the big screen as for the stage, we are able to share our beautiful productions with many more people world-wide.”

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give THE NUTCRACKER three and a half tubs of popcorn out of five. It truly is a thrill to experience a ballet on the large screen with all the color, characters, music and holiday feel.

THE NUTCRACKER is Monday, December 3rd at the Regal Mira Mesa and the Regal San Marcos. There are two showings at 2 p.m.and 7:30 p.m. This is an opportunity for families to share in the historical performance and, for some, a chance to finally see the story come to life through dance and music.

The story is enchanting with characters that both children and adults will be delighted to see and want to see again every Christmas to come.

In the end – it is a sweet treat for everyone to enjoy, Happy Holidays!
