From the co-author of #1 New York Times bestseller and Oscar winning film American Sniper comes the fast-paced thriller: “THE SNIPER AND THE WOLF,” A Sniper Elite Novel by SCOTT MCEWEN.
Scott McEwen is the coauthor of the #1 The New York Times bestseller, American Sniper by Chris Kyle. McEwen is also a consultant on the $1 billion box office, and Oscar winning film starring Bradley Cooper, and directed by Clint Eastwood.
McEwen is also the author of the Sniper Elite series which is inspired by once-classified narratives of active and retired U.S. Navy SEALS. McEwen, alongside Thomas Kolonair, have created a heart-pounding military thriller in his third novel inspired by Special Ops missions, THE SNIPER AND THE WOLF: A Sniper Elite Novel (Touchstone Hardcover; May 12, 2015; $24.99; ISBN: 978-1-4767-8726-8). In this latest effort Gil Shannon joins up with an unlikely Russian ally in order to stop a terrorist plot bent on destruction across Europe.
Our hero, Gil Shannon has a problem with authority and doesn’t follow the rules—but he also doesn’t back down from a fight. However, in THE SNIPER AND THE WOLF has Shannon finally met his match when another lethal sniper proves to be more dangerous? Will he be overwhelmed by “The Wolf?”
Gil Shannon is hot on the trail of his most recent target a Chechen terrorist, Dokka Umarov—who is based on a real life Chechen military figure—when he is sidelined by expert sniper, Sasha Kovalenko, “The Wolf”. Shannon turns from the hunter to the hunted when his mission is exposed by a traitor high up in U.S. government. Shannon must turn to a deadly Russian special operative, Ivan Dragunov, to help even the odds. But when they discover that “The Wolf” is just the tip of a global terrorist plot whose goal is to upend the U.S. economy and the stability of the Western world, Shannon and Dragunov must track the terrorists down before their plan comes to fruition.
Despite the cooperation of the Russian military (and an appearance by President Putin!) the hunt takes Shannon from Sicily to the Ukraine to Russia in an effort to dismantle terrorist intentions. Shannon comes head-to-head with legions of enemy fighters all across Europe in this white-knuckle realistic military thriller ending with a faceoff between Gil and the one sniper who may be his equal shot, “The Wolf.”
The Sniper Elite series adapts real stories of the nation’s brave soldiers who must do the hard work to keep this country safe. It highlights the friction between the soldiers on the ground, the intelligence officers at home, and the political figures running the show. The episodic nature of McEwen’s stories are so realistic as they are gleaned from his personal relationships with SEALS.
In THE SNIPER AND THE WOLF the following are based on these accounts:
- The relationship between the US Navy Seals and foreign intelligence the Russian Spetsnaz
- Chechen Islamist terrorist and military groups
- The destruction of a Turkey Safe House (aka brothel)
- The true to life combat, fight, shooting and weaponry sequences
THE SNIPER AND THE WOLF is an unforgettable adventure that demonstrates once and for all that Gil Shannon is a man to be reckoned with delivering non-stop energy, vivid imagery, and intense scenes of combat making it is simply impossible to put down.
Sony Pictures has snapped up a deal for Jaume Collet-Serra (Non-Stop’s) to direct a Sheldon Turner script based on the Sniper Elite series (Sniper Elite, 2013 and Target America, 2014).
