On DVD this Tuesday from SHOUT Factory and The Hallmark Channel comes the continuing story of “When Calls the Heart: Heart and Soul.”

Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) has decided to stay longer with her family but Jack (Daniel Lissing) must return to Hope Valley as his Mountie duties are needed in town. Of course this leaves the door open for the dashing Charles Kensington (Marcus Rosner).

Back in Hope Valley, Abigail (Lori Loughlin) hasn’t heard from Rachel (Katelyn Mager) and is surprised when Bill Avery (Jack Wagner) steps forward to locate her. Also, a new reverend and his daughter come to town, but with a secret of their own.

When two producers come to town looking for Rosemary (Pascale Hutton) to make her a star in New York, it’s Jack to the rescue when it all goes wrong.

Finally, Elizabeth must finally decide where her heart truly lies, with her family or in Hope Valley with the children she teaches and the man she has feelings for.

It is truly when the heart calls!

Krakow as Elizabeth is such a lovely character. Confused about the life she has grown up with and the events with her family, she is pulled by the town of Hope Valley and everything she has come to love there as well. Playing this role, Krakow does so with such grace and the costuming gives her even more eloquence.

Lissing as Mountie Jack is a dashing and handsome character who wants to do what is right by everyone. From knowing that leaving Elizabeth behind him may lose her to dealing Rosemary, he has his hands full when a couple of cons come to town.

Loughlin as Abigail is such a lovely character because she is sort of the matriarch of the town. Caring for everyone and seeing the good in them, her character is a joy to watch with what she brings to the series.

Hutton as Rosemary brings comedy in her own way and is still playing the emotional game with Jack. Rosner as Kensington is also dashing and charming but with an agenda of his own. Wagner as Avery returns to once again prove his intentions with Abigail, but still there are unanswered questions about his past.

Other cast includes: Mitchell Kummen as Gabe Montgomery, Chelah Horsdal as Cat Montgomery, Darius Zaviceanu as James Fermont, Erica Carroll as Dottie Ramsey and Johannah Newmarch as Molly Sullivan.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give “When Calls the Heart: Heart and Soul” four tubs of popcorn out of five. This story is simplistic in its values which is a wonderful thing. The tale of a town in the wild frontier, the series itself is filled with romance, friendships, family and the loyalty this town has toward each other.

“Heart and Soul” continues with this tradition of storytelling that is fantastic for families to enjoy and the truly challenging work of portraying a time gone by. I have to say I am a big fan, and the show truly does embrace the story with the town and beautiful costuming. Each episode unveils more of the characters storyline and I am really enjoying that very much.

“When Calls the Heart: Heart and Soul” is executive produced by Michael Landon Jr. and the series “When Calls the Heart” returns for Season Two on The Hallmark Channel.
