Coming to DVD from Shout! Factory and Marvel Knights is the animated ‘greatest-story-never-told’ WOLVERINE ORIGIN.

This film tells the story of Wolverine. Before he became an X-Men his story actually begins as a boy and an experiment called Weapon-X project. But everyone truly wants to know their beginnings.

Who is James Howlett, he is the son of a plantation owner in the 19th Century Canada and was often very sick. When his father brings orphaned Rose to be his companion they team up with Dog Logan, a boy who lives in the poorest part of town.

As the three grow up there lives change with a single incident. Now Rose and James are on the run as she keeps a diary of everything that has happened to them. She also calls James Logan to hide who he is!

But that doesn’t last as Dog comes looking for them both but not for reasons he promised a dying man. From the Canadian wilderness to Japan and farther this is the story of family secrets and history as well as the heart breaking tragedy that will change everything.

FINAL WORD: This is an amazing series of story telling that I didn’t know existed. Like most people what I know of the character Wolverine is from the films, or perhaps some things my sons told me as they were growing up reading comic books. This is really a sad story with dark and deep undertones.

At the same time there is so much information its kind of mind boggling. That being said the animation is flawless and brilliant which is always pretty cool bonus for the storyline. There doesn’t seem to be the ability to hold back with these writers because it is just as gritty and raw as it needs to be.

WOLVERINE: ORIGIN is written by Eisner Award winner Paul Jenkins with a story from Joe Quesada, Paul Jenkins and Bill Jemas. The artwork is provided beautifully by Andy Kubert and Richard Isanove.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give WOLVERINE: ORIGIN three and a half tubs of popcorn out of five. There isn’t a single thing about it I didn’t enjoy. I know there are fans of animation and comic books out there who need to see this. I mean seriously, if they weren’t out there I’d be at Comic-Con all by myself right?

It is truly a dark story to tell but for me it helps the storyline of Wolverine make sense. Coming in at 66 minutes watch it all the way through without interruption is my advice. Personally I couldn’t have stopped if I tried. I wanted to know more!

The DVD includes is in a unique comic book style that bridges the comic book to DVD concept. It contains exclusive behind-the-scenes bonus features with creator, illustrator interviews that talk about the development and process of the story. ‘Marvel Knights Animation remains true to the heritage of panel-by-panel graphic storytelling, boasting groundbreaking illustrations, sensational sound scapes, and of course, the explosiveness of the Mighty Marvel Universe. Behind every image and every word lies the genius of Marvel’s celebrated creators.’ For more visit
