On Bluray from writer/director David Lam and Well Go USA Entertainment is the quick paced catch ‘em fast detective work when trying to stop a “Z Storm.”
This film tells the story of an elite group of special agents who are part of the ICAC. Led by Chief Officer Luk (Louis Koo), they begin to uncover a scheme that could take the citizens of Hong Kong for ever dime they have.
When on-the-take accountant Law Tak-wing (Lo Hoi-pang) office is raided, it is Man-bin who keeps the cuffs off. Man-bin (Gordon Lam) is a corrupt cop who knows exactly what is happening and who is responsible. When his wife decides she’s had enough of his abuse, she tells everything to Chief Luk.
But every snake has a head as the charge is being pushed Malcolm Wu (Michael Wong) who is working his way around the government and buying off politicians to get what he wants. When a hedge fun is ready to go public that would rob unsuspecting investors, the ICAC has six days to bring it all down!
Koo as Chief Luk is a man on a serious mission. He is smart, quick and clever and that makes his character even more interesting to watch. It isn’t just the ICAC that he focuses on but the millions of people who will be ripped-off that drives him forward. Koo has a presence on the screen that works in this role and if he seems familiar perhaps that’s because he has been busy! His roles have included “Drug War” in 2012, “The White Storm”in 2013, and “Triumph in the Skies” in 2015.
Hoi-pang as Tak-wing is an account savvy man who knows to lay low. Keeping the books for a powerful man has its pitfalls, but then that’s what muscle is for. This is a reuniting as Hoi-pang joins fellow actor Koo once again. Hoi-pang was also in the films “The White Storm” with Koo in 2013.
Lam as Man-bin is a guy you just want to smack around. Cocky and unafraid of any consequences he lives hard and smacks harder. He’s a tough nut to crack and every move he makes is done with no fear at all. Oh yea, he’s a crazy one that Man-bin. Lam has also made his mark especially in one of my favorite films “IP Man” in 2008 and “Firestorm” in 2013.
Wong as Wu is a man who thinks nothing can touch him. Thumbing his nose at the ICAC and pretty much anyone in authority, he believes he is untouchable. Of course those who think that tend to be in for a big surprise. Wu can be seen in “Transformers: Age of Extinction” and can also in “Zombie Fight Club” as Captain Ma because you can never have enough zombie movies!

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give “Z Storm” three and a half tubs of popcorn out of five. I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline because it is a little different. Watching this elite group try to find ways to bring the house down gets tricky. This would actually make a pretty good television series and one that I would definitely watch.
Director Lam has been part of some fantastic films such as “The Wild Ones” (1989), “Tears and Triumph” (1994), “Street Angels” (1999) and now “Z Storm.”
In the end — it is a chase to protect the innocent!
