Readers of San Diego Magazine Selected Marina Kitchen as the Best Hotel Restaurant of 2013

Marina Kitchen at the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina, was selected as the Readers’ Pick for Best Hotel Restaurant in San Diego Magazine’s 2013 Best Restaurants in San Diego poll. The announcement appears in the June issue of San Diego Magazine, which identifies San Diego’s top spots for pizza, beer, fine dining, brunch and more in 53 categories. Food editor and critic Troy Johnson weighed in with his top category picks, while the general public was encouraged to submit votes online in one of the most anticipated polls of the year.

“We are so honored to win Readers’ Pick for Best Hotel Restaurant in San Diego,” said Steve Pagano, Hotel Manager for the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina. “Having just hit our one year anniversary, Marina Kitchen has made so many leaps and bounds in just a short amount of time. Our goal was to embrace the San Diego culture and welcome locals into our doors with open arms, and show that we weren’t just another hotel restaurant, but a serious player in the local food and wine landscape. This award is proof that our hard work and dedication has paid off, and we look forward to continuing to provide the excellent service, food and ambiance that has gotten us here.”

Marina Kitchen, which opened in May of 2012, is a dynamic, all-day dining venue featuring a locally produced and a seasonally fresh menu from land and sea. Executive Chef Aron Schwartz has developed a modern comfort menu from this palatte by presenting familiar favorites in a contemporary fashion such as recognizable entrée-sized salads, sharable appetizers, a robust sampling of small plates at the bar, and simple chef-crafted entrees, all using fresh ingredients in harmony with seasonal availability. Restaurant staples and favorites include Turkey Pot Pie, Daily Grilled Fish, Jidori Fried Chicken and the award-winning Maker’s Mark Milkshake, to name a few.

The beverage menu showcases some of San Diego’s best locally crafted beers and a progressive spirits platform, featuring a classic cocktail menu revived with artisan American spirits like Ballast Point’s Old Grove Gin, Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Bulleit Bourbon. Just in time for summer, Marina Kitchen recently unveiled its Punch Program, which features a concoction of fresh fruits and ingredients to create four refreshing handcrafted punches, perfect for sharing.

Additionally, Marina Kitchen boasts a diverse and balanced wine by the glass program with a distinct West Coast orientation and strong bias towards California wines. The restaurant’s keg wine system enables it to showcase a revolving list of interesting “barrel sample” wines each month for the freshest way to experience wine. A larger selection of wines is available from the cellar featuring a global list with primarily American wines in a moderate price range. The restaurant boasts a selection of four wines on tap, 25 wines by the glass and 250 wines by the bottle.

Marina Kitchen also serves as a live music venue for local artists, such as Maria De La Paz, Mojo Sessions, Israel Maldonado, and Rebecca Jade and Danny Green. For the live music schedule, visit Marina Kitchen’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/MarinaKitchenSD.
