Paws in the Park, set for March 30, raises funds and awareness for homeless animals

The Escondido Humane Society’s Paws in the Park dog walk is March 30 at Kit Carson Park in Escondido. The dog walk, the largest of its kind in North San Diego County, features contests for people and pets, shopping, games, entertainment and much more.

More than a thousand people and their canine companions will hit the trails at Kit Carson Park on March 30 for the Escondido Humane Society’s 15th annual Paws in the Park dog walk, presented by Grande Laundry Place.

Proceeds from the event will provide critical resources for the Escondido Humane Society’s life-saving services, including adoption, behavioral and medical rehabilitation programs, and education.

The event gets started at 8 a.m. with registration and light refreshments. At 9 a.m., walkers and their dogs will embark on either a 1.5- or 2.5-mile course. After the walk, participants and their pets will enjoy a variety of festivities, including games, food, an opportunity drawing and prizes. The event’s marquee contests are a “Terriers and Tiaras” fashion show (all “barkinistas” are welcome to participate regardless of breed; make sure your dog comes dressed to impress) and a Wet T-shirt Contest (only for the dogs – this is a family-friendly event, after all!).

To add to the fun, a diverse group of more than 60 vendors will offer shopping, information and giveaways. There will also be a confidence-building course and a demonstration by Ballistic Racers Flyball Team.

Heather Myers of San Diego 6 The CW will serve as master of ceremonies and will be joined by fellow media sponsors KyXy 96.5 and Energy 103.7.
