HAPPY NEW YEAR fashionistas! This is going to be another great year of fashion.

The award season/red carpet season has already begun, we just had the People’s Choice Awards last week and the Golden Globe Awards were last night… again, what I saw on the red carpet wasn’t that impressive to me. The designs that I did like were few and far in between and from designers that I wasn’t familiar with and couldn’t pronounce their names… not that matters much in fashion! LOL!

Next up are the Grammys and most notably of all fashion red carpets… the Oscars are all on the horizon.

Who could ever forget that green dress that Jennifer Lopez wore to the Grammys? That dress was a show stopper that is still remembered over a decade later!

I probably won’t be discussing a lot of red carpet moments again this year, cause as I mentioned in my recent posts… they just don’t interest me that much! Unless of course there’s some design(s) that’s so hideous or so fabulous that I have to mention it.

Instead I prefer to inform you about fashionable things that do interest me, things like Sears Holdings, the owner of Kmart and its affiliate website ShopYourWay.com, has joined forces with the “American Idol” judge Nicki Minaj and Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine from “the Voice” plans to launch a series of new clothing lines this year.

I’m not a big Nicki Minaj fan, nor do I like your style, but apparently I’m in the minority on that and certainly not in the age group that listens to her music! I can’t name one song by this apparent fashionista. On the flip side, I LOVE Maroon 5 and its lead singer Adam Levine. I saw them in concert a few years ago at the Cox Arena in San Diego and its still one of my favorite concerts to date!

How many times have we seen this trend in fashion? Some celebrity fashion collaborations have been VERY successful… Jessica Simpson, Beyonce, Gwen Stefani, just to name a few.

While I don’t like Britney Spears singing abilities, I really like her perfumes. I’m a huge Justin Timberlake fan as well, but I don’t think his line (William Rast) is at the forefront of the fashion industry!

Other collaborations haven’t been quite as successful however, Jennifer Lopez is a unique situation… her line was quite successful at first but soon fizzled out.

But her overall brand got a HUGE resurrection when she was a judge on American Idol for a few seasons, she turned that time back into the spot light into multiple opportunities in many areas!

Fergie’s shoe line also started out great and hit the sales racks rather quick as well, but she’s an artist that I love and she’ll be just fine because she has real talent as a singer, writer and performer!

It’s important to note that most of these artist aren’t designers, they are merely licensing their name for lots of money, the more successful the celebrity; the more they can demand to license their brand!

Who knows, maybe you too can inspire something wonderful and your name can be in lights too!

Until next time my Veteran Fashionistas, as always, stay fashionable!
