Marie is a young girl who has just learned that a debt her father is owed has come due. Now, she and her mother might lose everything. Something strange happens when Marie sings a song and discovers that her room is about to change her. Shrinking to a small size, she is attacked by a large rate and rescued one of her very own toys – the Nutcracker named George!
From Curly the sheep, to her country of girlfriends to the Wizard, she learns that the magic spell will be lifted for her to change back. But George wants to go after the rat because the spell won’t be broken if he is not back in the room where it originated. So off they all go to find George.
They all arrive in the Land of Flowers only to be chased by soldiers and Queen Charlotte that is when George begins to remembers his life. His step-mother and step-brother Philip cast a spell turning him into the Nutcracker and tossed aside. The problem is that Marie needs him back in her room but learn that George is actually Prince George.
An agreement is made that Marie and her friends will help George and in return he goes back to help break the spell. Going back to the castle is the first step to stop the Queen from keeping the King in a trance that has him seeing rats. She wants one thing from him, the location of a magic flute!
George discovers from his ghostly family that a flute can help him with the rats in the castle. When they run into trouble, George’s friend Margaret wants to help them rescue his father. At Phillips party, Marie creates a distraction so that George can find his father or the flute.
Finding his father, they also discover even more magic and wonderment that can help them. The search brings them all to the throne room as Queen Charlotte decides to take matters into her own hands. That is until help comes from the most unlikely of places as morning comes and the reality of it all comes home for Marie.
It is true magic that breaks the spell!

NUTCRACKER AND THE MAGIC FLUTE is a beautifully animated story of friendship, life and magic. All of the things we find wonderful this time of year. This is a lovely way to introduce kids to the Nutcracker adventure. The music is wonderful and adds such richness to it all.
Marie is a young girl who just wants to help her mother find an answer to their current predicament. Never in her wildest dreams did she think an adventure was going to push her in a direction of another land! Prince George is in a fight of his own for the father he loves dearly. He is skilled and knows exactly what needs to be done – but will he be able to take on Queen Charlotte?
Queen Charlotte is a hand full and determined to get what she thinks is rightfully hers.
Each character has his/her part to play and even the ostrich Red Beak, who would rather put his head in a thimble to avoid problems, discovers he can be strong when it is needed. Curly is a character that provides really silly but good one-liners and keeps everyone on track.
It is a story of love, friendship, loyalty and devotion to those they love. All of those qualities are so wonderful and the characters have us cheering for them every step of the way. This film had my granddaughter captivated from start to finish. She was fascinated with each one and wanted to know if there were stuff animals available for each one of them.
Spend some time together with the family experiencing the story that has captivated us all for generations!
In the end – their adventure is filled with magic!
