Brandman University MBA Students Fundraising for a Cause, Not Just a Grade

Graduate students from Brandman University are collaborating with the Veteran Artist Program (VAP) to host VETERANS+ART on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm at Horton Square located at 225 Broadway in downtown San Diego. The fundraising event will showcase local veteran artists and their artwork while sharing their compelling stories and educating visitors on VAP and the importance of art therapy.

“We are thrilled to partner with Brandman University to bring this unique project to veteran artists in the Southern California region,” says VAP Founder/Director BR McDonald. “Not only will this show create a meaningful opportunity for veterans but will help bridge the gap between military service and civilian life. We are always looking for producers to step up and help take VAP to the next level. Brandman did just that and we are excited to see VAP represented so well on the west coast!”

VAP and Brandman University have partnered with veteran artists from Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD) who will also be represented at the event. With their dedication and promise to “leave no one behind” VVSD has assisted military veterans by providing a continuum of care with a full range of comprehensive and innovative services for prevention, intervention, treatment and aftercare.

Visitors are invited to meet local veteran artists and their artistic pieces which will be on display in the plaza of Horton Square. Artwork is for sale and to be enjoyed as artists perform their artistic talents live. Donations are welcome and a raffle will take place with prizes including an overnight stay and dinner at San Diego’s Barona Resort & Casino and tickets to the San Diego Padres.

The idea for this fundraising event was created when MBA students from Brandman University’s San Diego campus decided to utilize what they are learning from their Marketing Management course and implement their business marketing knowledge for a real cause that meant something important to them.

Art has been a powerful, therapeutic tool in the healing process for many combat veterans reintegrating back into society and transitioning back into civilian life. VAP and Brandman University hope that with events like VETERANS+ART veterans can reshape the arts in America and own the discussion about the veteran experience in the mainstream creative arts community.

The Veteran Artist Program (VAP) is a veteran-led production company that propels veterans into the mainstream creative arts community through networking, mentorship, collaborations and original productions. VAP focuses on 6 disciplines in the arts (Music, Film, Theater, Dance, Writing and Visual Arts) and is conducting projects around the country including Baltimore, Washington, DC, San Francisco, Chicago, New York and San Diego.
